Thanks to a very generous offering and donation from UBOS (Umpqua Basin Operators Section), the PNCWA scholarship program has recently added two new funds that will award scholarships to applicants interested in the field of operations. PNCWA’s main scholarship fund, in existence since 2010, has always been open to applicants interested in pursuing studies in both the engineering and operations fields (and will continue to be), but the two newly established funds will accept only applications from candidates involved in studies related to operations. Scholarships are now open and applications are due June 23, 2017. Read more at our "Scholarships" page.
The two new funds are:
Lucas Eibel Memorial Scholarship—This $1,500 award targets community college students in a two-year or two-year transfer program in Oregon. UBOS would like to see preference given to Umpqua Community College (UCC) students for this scholarship, but it is open to all applicants within the state of Oregon. Lucas Eibel was a summer intern at Roseburg Urban Sanitary District (RUSA) and a member of UBOS who sadly was one of the victims lost in the shooting tragedy at Umpqua Community College on October 1, 2015. He was 18 years old at the time of his death, was studying chemistry at UCC, and had recently received two scholarships. He graduated from Roseburg High School with high academic marks. Lucas had been an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and volunteered at Wildlife Safari and Saving Grace animal shelter. He enjoyed hiking, drawing, reading, playing video games and soccer.
Education for Operators Scholarship—Up to $1,500 award, targeted to one-year certification program
or two-year college program for operators from any PNCWA state (Oregon, Idaho and Washington). Award amounts would be based on the amount necessary for the program enrolled in up to $1,500. UBOS encourages other PNCWA sections to con- tribute to and help build this Education for Operators Scholarship fund.
UBOS Donations
At the August 2016 PNCWA board meeting, Jim Baird presented a $5,000 UBOS contribution to the PNCWA scholarship fund. Of these funds, $1,500 is designated for each of the two newly named funds for 2017 and the $2,000 remainder went into the general PNCWA scholarship fund.
UBOS hopes to continue to donate to the scholarship fund at no less than $3,000 a year, if funds are available. The section has a very successful training program that generates section funds while helping operators get the education needed to succeed in their profession.
Donations encouraged
All individual PNCWA members, related companies and regions/sections are encouraged to join UBOS in supporting the PNCWA scholarship program. All donations can specify which fund the donation should be placed in. All donations are fully tax deductible. Make a donation
