WAVE Program: Meet the Students

The WAVE program engages students and emerging professionals from diverse backgrounds with the water industry through a series of workshops and attendance of the 2023 PNCWA conference. The workshops focus on the various paths within the water industry, networking, skills development, employment opportunities, and conference preparation. Each month until the conference, we will highlight our participants.

Today, Meet Juliana, Nicole, and Jasper:

Juliana Andrade
Student at Seattle University, studying Civil Engineering with an Environmental Specialization
Brown and Caldwell, Environmental Engineering Intern

Why are you interested in the water industry?

I am interested in the water industry because water is essential to everything we do as humans, and I think that offers an abundance of opportunities to directly improve the lives of everyone in our communities while also improving the ways we interact with and impact the environment. I also really enjoy the interdisciplinary and ever-evolving nature of water-related projects, as there is always opportunity to learn something new and/or collaborate with different groups and/or professionals.

What's one thing you hope to get out of this program?

I am really looking forward to learning from leaders in water as well as other students and young professionals as we discuss the water industry and work to develop our professional skills. I am hoping to broaden my knowledge about the industry and to be challenged to grow as both an individual and a professional. I am also very excited for the opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas with a diverse group that shares similar passions for water and wastewater.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and pretty much any other excuse to get outdoors. I also enjoy cooking, crocheting, and exploring new restaurants and coffee shops!
