The WAVE program offers a 5-part workshop series focusing on the water and wastewater industry, networking, leadership skills development, employment opportunities, and professional presentation experiences. WAVErs have a unique opportunity to learn from water and wastewater leaders across the Pacific Northwest, practicing critical leadership and communication skills, and developing a strong network of peers and mentors over the course of the year, culminating in presentations at the PNCWA Annual Conference. Most of the WAVE cohort will be first time attendees at this year’s conference in Boise, ID on Sept. 8-11, 2024, and we want to support and welcome them to this awesome community!
Why should you support the PNCWA WAVE Program?
- Dedicated to cultivating the next generation of water industry leaders in the Pacific Northwest, PNCWA’s WAVE program has a strong alignment with the WEF Strategic Plan. The mission of inclusivity and career development directly supports Goal 1 of the WEF strategic plan, attracting and developing a diverse and passionate water workforce.
- WAVE empowers new leaders by reducing barriers to workforce entry and retention. This mission has strong alignment with Goal 2 of the WEF strategic plan, cultivating a purpose-driven community to sustainably solve water challenges for all.
- By investing in the Northwest water workforce, the WAVE program has direct parallels with WEF strategic plan Goal 3, leading the transformation of the circular water economy. Expanding the perspectives and skills of the people who compose our industry is the key to evolving the way we think about the shared resource of water and moving towards a sustainable circular water economy.
This year we have a wonderful cohort of 15 students and/or emerging professionals with diverse backgrounds. It is our goal each year to fund the participants’ expenses (conference registration, travel, and lodging) since this is a common barrier for students and emerging professionals to engage in education & networking opportunities like attending professional conferences.
