Emerging Technologies Committee

The Emerging Technologies Committee facilitates the knowledge and advancement of emerging and advanced technologies used in wastewater, combined sewer overflow (CSO) and stormwater treatment. The committee’s goal is to support professional development for PNCWA members by promoting communications and learning opportunities through workshops, seminars, and collaboration with other committees.

The committee sponsored 2017 and 2018 pre-conference workshops for PNCWA annual meeting attendees (see overviews below), and we have organized several webinars, including a side stream treatment webinar series which concluded in 2016 as a follow up to a successful workshop at the 2013 annual conference.

Committee members also regularly contribute articles to the PNCWA Newsletter and provide support for the development and facilitation of annual conference programming, including serving as session moderators.
If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved with the committee, please use the ‘Join a Committee’ link below to complete an application or contact the Committee Chair for information.

News & Highlights

2018 “Aerobic Granular Sludge (AGS) - An Innovation for Increased Performance and Capacity within Existing Footprint” Preconference Worksho

By developing granular sludge that settle significantly better than conventional flocculent activated sludge, the innovative aerobic granular sludge process has gained tremendous interests in its capability of holding 2-3 times the biomass inventory of an activated sludge process within the same space, increasing capacity, enhancing nutrient removal, while offering energy savings. The AGS workshop educated attendees about the state of the art of the aerobic granular sludge process, and featured leading practitioners from forward-thinking municipalities/utilities, academia, consulting fields, and innovative technology providers.
