Mark your calendars! The 2018 PNW YP Summit is scheduled for September 21. Co-organized by PNCWA and the PNW Section of AWWA, the YP Summit is a daylong gathering for students and young professionals in the water and wastewater industry. This event is an opportunity for YPs to network and see a variety of speakers covering topics pertinent to upcoming water and wastewater industry leaders.The theme of this year’s summit is #Innovation and will be hosted at the Water Resource Education Center in Vancouver, Washington.   Look for upcoming speaker announcements!

2018 Oregon Operators Conference August 14–16

Special Included Short Course: Fundamentals of Nutrients Removal and Recovery- Theory, Technologies, Process Control, and Troubleshooting: Take advantage of this training opportunity to participate in a short course on the fundamentals of design for biological nutrient removal. Targeting young professionals and operators, class exercises will pertain to operational responses to optimize nutrient removal or to respond to process upsets. Process simulation software will be used to train operators and to test new design parameters. 0.7 CEUs for Short Course alone.

The PNCWA and AWWA has partnered with UBOS to organize an outstanding conference to network, receive quality training and education, learn about products and services in the field, and enjoy the Umpqua Valley and Seven Feathers Resort. The three day registration includes a Conference Dinner Wednesday evening, and breakfast and lunch on each day of the event. The 2018 Oregon Operators Conferences will provide each individual, subject to conditions outlined in OAR 240, the opportunity to gain up to 2.1 Water & Wastewater CEU’s for certificate renewal. Requested CEUs: Onsite CEUs of 1.6 have been requested. In addition, individuals participating in pre-conference trainings on Monday can earn .4 Wastewater and .6 Water. CEUs are calculated at the rate of .1 CEU per each verified hour of attendance.

As wastewater treatment moves toward resource recovery, the basic treatment plant will have primary clarification, activated sludge aeration basins and secondary clarifiers, and anaerobic digestion. Each of these is comprehensively covered to give attendees the fundamental knowledge they need in fulfilling the operations professional’s personal mission statement: To remove pollutants from the incoming water while complying with all permits—water, air and land—and convert them to recyclable biosolids as sustainably and cost effectively as possible.
