PNCWA Members Prepare for National Residuals and Biosolids Conference in Seattle
This year’s national Residual and Biosolids Conference is taking place in Seattle, Washington, from April 8-11. Many members from the PNCWA Residuals & Biosolids Committee are attending and involved as conference organizers, presenters, and moderators.
“The committee is taking advantage of this opportunity to participate more than we could at a more distant conference,” says Susan Hildreth, PNCWA Residuals & Biosolids Committee Chair. “We’re having an unusually good turnout at a national conference because it’s local.” PNCWA is also cohosting a Friends of Biosolids Reception at the Museum of Pop Culture (pictured left) on opening night of the conference—and tickets are still available!
PNCWA Residuals & Biosolids Committee member Dave Parry is conference chair. In his opening letter for the conference, he promises a packed schedule with robust programming: presentations on the future of biosolids and bioenergy; the latest research on new processes, process optimization, biosolids, and bioenergy management; and the opportunity to tour King County’s South Treatment Plant, which treats approximately 325 million gallons per day at peak flow capacity from cities located east and south of Lake Washington.
“For people whose career focus is on solids and energy, this is the premier forum for networking with peers, learning about new innovations in the industry, and hearing about what works at agencies across North America,” says Ian McKelvey, a PNCWA Residuals & Biosolids Committee member who is also presenting at the conference. “The session I’m moderating on bioenergy has a fantastic slate of presenters discussing case studies across the U.S. and Canada. I hope my talk on identifying the best use of a plant’s biogas proves helpful for both municipalities and consultants.”
PNCWA Residuals & Biosolids committee members Jennifer Stehler, Brian Hemphill, and Susan Hildreth will also be moderators on several conference sessions. It’s not every year that a national WEF conference happens in the Pacific Northwest, so PNCWA Biosolids & Residuals committee are showing up in strong numbers to educate, network, and get training this year.
