The WAVE Program is looking for presenters to join our 2024 Workshop Series!
The workshops are the backbone of this program. They allow cohort members to gain knowledge, start building their networks, and are what set the WAVE program apart! This program is grateful to have had phenomenal speakers over the years, some of which have presented multiple times. We are opening the space to welcome both new and returning presenters who want to contribute to this program and get to know the upcoming future leaders in water!
All workshops are virtual and follow the general topics outlined below:
Workshop #1 (February timeframe):
- Introduction to the Water Industry - multiple speakers (~6)
- Day in the Life of a Water Professional: Looking for presenters who are City Engineers, Consulting Engineers, Scientists, Contractors, Operators, Community Outreach/Water Communicators, professionals who work with local tribes, etc.
- Commitment: 10 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
- Different Certifications available in the Water Industry – 1 speaker
- Commitment: 10 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
- Virtual Project Tour – show off interesting project using current/emerging technologies
- Commitment: 15-20 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
Workshop #2 (March-April timeframe):
- Means and methods of networking – 1 speaker
- Commitment: 30 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
- A real-world example of the importance of networking (and/or mentoring) - 1 speaker
- Commitment: 30 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
Workshop #3 (May-June timeframe):
- Personal Development: “How I got here” – 2 speakers
- Conversational style presentation on your career journey
- Commitment: 30 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A -
- Negotiation - 1 speaker
- Advice on negotiation, whether it be for a raise or for your salary and benefits during hiring, raise or promotion period, and tips for women and BIPOC folks.
- Commitment: 30 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
Workshop #4 (June-July timeframe):
- Need Resume reviewers! ~ 5 volunteers
- Commitment: Review 3-5 resumes before workshop, then come to workshop to discuss general ins and outs of resume writing and feedback to the group.
Workshop #5 (August timeframe):
- Public speaking tips & tricks – 1 speaker
- Commitment: 15-30 minute presentations + few minutes for Q+A
If you are not able to attend the workshop but would like to participate as a presenter, we may be able to accept a recording of your presentation.
